Best Compact Treadmills for Small Spaces or Apartment Living

Compact Treadmills that Fit Almost Anywhere

Treadmills have been a staple of the exercise industry for many years. If you’ve ever seen one in a gym, you may be under the impression that they are primarily large and bulky machines that could never fit in small spaces, such as an apartment or home gym. Fortunately, home treadmills are commonly a fraction of the size of the commercial treadmills you normally find in gyms. While treadmills for home are generally smaller, those who are limited by space may find those a little too bulky as well.

We have looked at some of the best treadmills that can work in small spaces, apartments, or personal gyms. These treadmills are lightweight, relatively easy to move and store, and can often be folded to better make use of space. While they may not be as feature-rich as a commercial treadmill, these compact treadmills offer some of the best performance and value you’ll find.

During our research, we determined that the best of the bunch is the Sunny Health and Fitness Asuna SpaceFlex treadmill. It offers an excellent combination of performance and features. In fact, it is the only model of those we chose that also includes an automatic incline option. If you want to get the best bang for your buck, the MaxKare folding treadmill may be exactly what you are looking for.

This is a straightforward and simple treadmill to use. While there are plenty of convenience features such as speakers, pulse sensors, or the performance monitor, this model is more intended for those who just like to get on and start going. MaxKare 2.5 HP Folding Treadmill

The MaxKare folding treadmill is a budget model treadmill specifically designed for those with little space to spare. The small footprint allows owners to position this equipment in a variety of areas while leaving plenty of room. Furthermore, the simple folding ability allows it to be easily folded and stored to further maximize square footage. Transportation wheels are included that make the treadmill trivial to push out of the way when done working out.

This MaxKare treadmill features a 2.5 HP motor that offers enough power to run up to 8.5 MPH at 3 different incline levels. While it would be nice to have automatic incline leveling, this is a budget treadmill, so some features may be less than more expensive models offer. The LCD display shows speed, the current program, mileage, heart rate, and more information concerning your workout. As with most of these devices, the heart rate monitor works…barely. If you want a more accurate reading, it is suggested to purchase a separate heart rate monitor for accurate results.

The treadmill does well on most surfaces and does not wobble or shift as you work out. A wide belt area gives users plenty of space to walk or run. The length is somewhat short, as it is rated at a maximum height of 6.2 inches for the users. Long striders may have issues with the short exercise area.

Overall, this is a well-made budget treadmill. While the MaxKare foldable treadmill may not offer all the features most expensive treadmills do, it does a good job at providing a strong workout. The small footprint, strong motor, and sturdy nature of this piece of exercise equipment make it a good value buy. It has a relatively quiet operation and will ensure you can make room, if needed, after you finish your workouts.

  • Fast assembly
  • Small footprint
  • Roomy workout
  • Well-lit instrument panel
  • Easily folded and moved
  • Belt may need adjusting to reduce wear
  • Belt is thin

XTERRA Fitness TR150 Folding Treadmill

The XTERRA Fitness TR150 treadmill is one of the more popular budget treadmills currently available. It offers a variety of features that exceed what would normally be expected from a treadmill under $500. It is lightweight, easily folded for storage, and dead simple to get started. It features a comparatively quiet workout that is quiet enough to allow you to watch television and not disturb your neighbors if you live in an apartment. One note about the noise, to keep the machine running smoothly, ensure it stays well-lubricated.

Featuring pulse grips on the handrails, a 5” LCD display, and speed settings on the console, you have everything you need to get started right away. After a quick setup time, you can be running in no time flat. The features are limited when compared to more expensive models, but the simple nature of the XTERRA TR150 lend itself to quick workouts. Fewer gadgets and other distractions ensures you are focused on your workout.

A 2.25 HP motor allows the treadmill to run up to 10 MPH, which is a good speed for a budget model treadmill. The XTERRA fitness treadmill also includes a manual incline and a 16” wide running surface to give you that “elbow room” we sometimes need. The manual incline is not particularly useful as it only inclines up to 2 degrees and must be manually adjusted. But, as a budget treadmill, you can’t expect the same features normally found in much more expensive machines.

The XTERRA TR150 folding treadmill is popular for a reason! It offers an exceptionally low price point and gives users a no-nonsense workout experience that works well in apartments or other small areas. Perfect for a home gym, this treadmill is lightweight enough to move when necessary or fold up and store for convenience. While there are some problems, allowances must be made for the cost savings.
