When it comes to how you spend your free time, one of the most common ways is by cooking outdoors with your family, friends, and other loved ones. Whether it be a fun way to celebrate Memorial Day weekend or simply a way to relax on a normal day, it is important that you find the perfect grill for the occasion. You will want one that of course is big enough to feed the number of people you typically have over but there are also other important features to look at as well. How easy is the grill to clean as opposed to others? Is there plenty of prep space built into it? Is it sturdy enough to easily withstand the elements?
In this review, we will be looking at the Char-Broil 463377319 Performance Stainless Steel Gas Grill by explaining some of the beneficial features that it has. This will cover things such as space available, durability, and overall design. We will also look at some cons for this grill so that you can truly make a decision that is right for you when it comes to whether you decide to purchase this specific grill.
Featuring a total of 425 square inches of available primary cooking space, the Char-Broil Performance grill can accommodate up to twenty hamburgers at a time. This can be handy for those who like to have large cookouts and need to feed a lot of people at one time. Furthermore, a warming rack (150 sq. in.), perfect for toasting buns, swings away as the lid is opened. In addition to these cooking spaces, there is also a side burner that you can place a skillet or saucepan on in order to cook sauces or small side dishes without having to take up the rest of your cooking space.
The Char-Broil grill also comes in a very sleek design. It is made entirely of stainless steel, including the cooking racks inside, which is both sturdy and easy to keep clean. The stainless-steel burners also ensure that the grill will last longer because it is built out of a more durable material. There are also stainless-steel tables located on both sides of the grill so that you can set down your utensils and ingredients when you are not using them.
The primary cooking grate features porcelain-coated cast iron grates that are excellent for cooking and holding heat. The steel burners work well and put out the expected amount of heat. The regulator may be a bit too small, but it can be removed to increase the flame output. The heat is evenly distributed and lends itself well to both direct and indirect cooking. Adjusting a burner’s temperature works well in cooking at differing temperatures in various parts of the cooking area. Overall, the Char Broil 4 burner grill does a very good job at providing a solid cooking experience.
There is also a warming rack built above the main cooking space, making it easy to keep food warm while you are trying to get the rest ready. This can be beneficial if you plan on grilling something like corn on the cob and need it to stay warm while the rest of your food is cooking. Additionally, it works very well by putting hot dogs on the warming rack to cook while you have your burger patties on the bottom. In order to make sure none of the warming or cooking food is getting too hot, there is also a built-in temperature gauge attached to the lid, this way you can check how hot your food is getting without even having to open your grill.
Something else that is handy is the easy to clean features that this grill provides. It can be difficult to clean up the grease that drips down into your grill while you cook but, this grill comes with an easily removable grease tray. This way, all you must do is slide the tray out once you have finished grilling and give it a quick wash. In order to make cleaning even easier, there are also two wheels attached to the grill. This makes it easy for you to turn it so that it faces the direction you want but the two legs that do not have wheels will prevent it from flipping over entirely, or moving when you do not want it to. Four lockable wheels would have been better, but the two-wheel version works surprisingly well. Furthermore, the stainless steel design greatly improves the cleaning process as most grease and grime can be removed with a simple wipe down.
One thing that I would like to point out is how easy this grill is to start. While other grill types, such as charcoal grills, leave you having to struggle to keep a flame burning this one starts with just the turn of a knob. There are five of these knobs located on the front of the grill. The first four are right in front of the grill racks and control the different segments of that rack and the fifth is located on the side where it controls the temperature of the side burner.
A problem that seems to pop up fairly frequently with this product is that it can be time consuming to put together, especially if you have no experience in the area. It is recommended that if you do choose to purchase this product that you have someone assist you with the assembly as some parts can be fairly heavy and difficult to manipulate when trying to put them into place. The Char-Broil 463377319 comes with over 100 separate components, so expect to spend 1.5 – 2.5 hours to fully assemble the grill. While none of it is exceedingly difficult (the instruction manual is better than most), it is time consuming.
The Char-Broil 463377319 is a quality grill at an affordable price. It is large enough to adequately accommodate backyard gatherings, but not too large as to be bulky and difficult to move. The versatility of this Char Broil model is commendable. Furthermore, the stainless-steel materials give it an appealing look that is easy to wipe down and keep clean. While it may not perform as well as some of the more expensive models (see our comparison of the best gas grills for under $500), it is a good option for almost any family. There are a few problems, but nothing that should worry the average backyard grill master.
